“One Community…One Club…One Passion…All Youth…All Soccer…All Levels”. Two and half years ago, when members of the Northeast Soccer Association (NECSA) and members of the Columbia Soccer Club (CSC) voted to become one unified club, the above slogan was but a descriptive goal of what could be. Today, with announcement of the Columbia United YMCA Recreational Youth Soccer Program, it has become an even greater reality! Assisting the Columbia YMCA with its mission, Columbia United is indeed doing it part to help build strong families, strong kids and strong communities throughout the Greater Columbia area. From Lexington in the Southwest to Blythewood in the Northeast to Chapin in the Northwest and Hopkins in the Southeast, we are indeed one community and the Columbia YMCA and Columbia United are here to serve your your families recreational youth soccer needs to the fullest!
Committed to improving youth soccer opportunity for all area players who desire to play at any level commensurate with their ability, Columbia United FC continues to strive to do just that. Beyond expanding our recreational reach, recognizing the need to get more children more touches on the ball and more training alongside players of similar skill levels, commencing this month, Columbia United FC initiates its new Player Development Program (PDP) for area players, whether members of Columbia United FC or not, ages U7 – U11. This unique program serves to prepare recreational players for future Academy and Select participation in a fun training environment led by our Director of Technical Training, Adrian Pinasco.
Consistent with our mission, at the other end of the age spectrum, Columbia United FC has once again vigorously supported the South Carolina High School soccer scene by sponsoring the 2nd Annual Clash of the Carolinas pitting NC All-Stars against SC All Stars, by sponsoring the Annual North-South Classic where South Carolina’s top senior players from across the state compete for bragging rights and by providing booster club financial assistance to 37 area high school soccer programs along with a complimentary 90-minute training session for the high schools’ coaches.
Looking ahead to the upcoming 2008-2009 SCYSA year, upgrades abound! From construction of a new 2,100 square foot storage facility at the BB&T Complex, to the hiring of Colin Kent, a quality individual with exceptional European youth soccer playing and development experience to fill our newly created Community Soccer Officer position, to our just announced Select and Academy outfitter agreement with sports apparel powerhouse Under Armour, to fielding more quality teams at all levels and building club loyalty and pride from within, your Club continues to improve your families youth soccer experience.
To my fellow Board members, to our dedicated administrative staff , to our soccer leadership, to our corporate sponsors and most importantly, to our handful of regular go-to volunteers who are always there and never let an opportunity to help out and serve others pass them by, thank you for all you have done to make Columbia United FC what it is today and where it can and will be tomorrow. Keeping quality youth soccer opportunity affordable for all who desire to play is one of our most important missions. Your dedication and commitment to enable us to do just that is most appreciated.
And finally, to each and every one of our graduating seniors and their parents, please know we thank you for having given us the privilege to call you “ours” over the years – just as you will always be! Whether or not you are one of our 24 or so seniors who have plans to continue your soccer careers in the NCAA or NAIA, I hope you will continue to pursue the beautiful game at some level, always retain your passion for it and never forget to give back to your soccer communities as adults by serving as coaches, volunteers or financial supporters to enable the youth of tomorrow to experience the opportunities you enjoyed right here in your Club, our Club - Columbia United FC!
